            GUS DUR ASKS NU MEMBERS NOT TO COMMENT ON "NAWAKSARA"

          Blitar, E Java - Chairman of the Islamic organization
     NahdlatulUlama (NU), Abdurrahman Wahid, has called on NU members not
     tocomment on the planned seminar on "Nawaksara", former
     presidentSoekarno's speech before the Provisional People's
     ConsultativeCouncil (MPRS).

          "It is not necessary for NU members to comment on this seminar,"he
     said here Monday, adding that he personally did not understandthe
     reasons behind the plan.

          He however said that the holding of the seminar, which
     wasinitiated by State Minister for Youth and Sports Hayono Isman, is
     nolonger relevant. He did not elaborate.

          He also declined to comment on Subadio Sastrosatomo's
     opinion,saying Indonesia has been facing a state leadership crisis
     since thebeginning of the New Order administration.
